Road travel in Botswana
Botswana has excellent roads that can take you to every part of the country.
There are good roads at entry and exit points of the country leading to Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Domestically, you can travel on a round the country trip on good tarred roads, often branching into reserves and parks which are still in their pristine state.
There are reliable and regular buses throughout the country and to neighbouring countries.
Cargo rail service
Currently Botswana Railways, which operates the country's rail service, does not operate its passenger train service. The service has been suspended indefinitely since April 2009.
However, BR supports cargo business with haulage service within Botswana and internationally.
The main railway line runs along the eastern side of Botswana between Ramatlabama border (with South Africa) and Ramokgwebana border (with Zimbabwe). This is part of the railway line that stretches from Cape Town to Harare.
All visitors to Botswana require a passport, return or transit ticket and sufficient funds to cover for their stay.
